In case you didn’t hear yesterday, Veeam released a Press Release stating a new alliance partnership with NetApp, specifically around Backup & Recovery.
I couldn’t be happier about this, personally, because as an admin and former customer of both NetApp and Veeam, it’s the melding of two of my favorite things in technology, as well as two of my favorite subjects areas; Data Protection and Storage.
Professionally, I’m equally excited about this. Veeam has been the #1 solution for backing up virtualized environments for many years now, having won countless awards for their solutions. They also fill some gaps that even the mighty giants of the industry have yet to address. And with a customer base exceeding 100,000+, as well as a presence in 90%+ of the Fortune 500, they are the A-players of Data Protection in VMware and Hyper-V environments.
I will have more walkthroughs and demos of these layers of integration once the product is released and I get some stick time with it. I am quite literally just getting my hands on the software this week, and having seen several demo’s and lots of screenshots (which I can’t quite share at this time), I’m very excited about what they’re delivering as well as the future potential.
If you’re a NetApp customer and looking for a different take on Data Protection, but maybe haven’t found the sweet spot just yet, definitely check out the new solution from Veeam. Or, if you’re a Veeam customer, and your storage solution isn’t cutting it, maybe now is a good time to start entertaining options.
This marriage of two technologies is like Peanut Butter & Banana sandwiches to Elvis.
“Together, the collaboration creates an important milestone and a disruptive advance in modern data protection. Veeam was founded to leverage the core attributes of virtualization and yet again, we’re now transforming a key enabling technology for the modern data center, bringing additional value and capabilities to ensure that the most-critical services of our 100,000 customers remain always on and always available.” -Ratmir Timashev, CEO of Veeam
The integration with NetApp Snapshot, SnapMirror and SnapVault will be included in Veeam Backup & Replication v8, which will be generally available in 2HCY2014.
