After the incredible response to Graham Smith’s guest blog post showcasing our vVol’s tech preview, and the huge interest at VMworld EU in Barcelona, Graham decided to make some additional videos around vVol’s, Storage Profiles, and VASA.
We’ve received several requests for deeper dives into vVols and VASA’s
role, so I thought I’d post a couple of the videos we hoped to show at
the booth at VMworld US. Unlike the demos we gave in Barcelona these use
the thick windows client, but the principle is the same.
The 1st takes a look at vVols from the ESXi command line and uses the
vmkfstool command to show just how quickly snapshots can be offloaded to
NetApp controllers. Interesting to note that with VAAI offloads
vmkfstool can do this today with traditional VMDKs. Hmm, a sign of
things to come?
WARNING: These demo’s are extremely technical, and not for the faint of heart!
The 2nd video is another very tech heavy demo that takes a look at the
web interface for our VASA 2.0 vendor provider (VP) we are creating for
vVol support. VASA will be the brains behind vVol creation, placement
and SLO compliance.
